For the past two years Rotary Peninsula 2.0 has conducted Duck Races as part of the Frankston Waterfront Festival. The funds raised by the races have been used to support organisations involved in the Waterfront and on supplying equipment for use at the beach.
This year, with the support and advice from Accessible Beaches Australia and Frankston City Council, the Club has purchased matting to run across the sand into the water. This will allow better access for people with mobility challenges – wheelchairs, walkers, vision impairment, sensory sensitivities - aged groups and the community as a whole. The Frankston Yacht Club has agreed to store and maintain the matting including putting it out at weekends during the upcoming season.
The Club is conducting an official launch of the matting on Saturday 30 November at the Frankston Yacht Club from 12pm. AThe launch will be conducted at 2pm by local Paralympic and Olympic gold medallist, Heath Davidson and the founder of Accessible Beaches Australia, Shane Hryhorec.
