Task Description - Opening up the clubhouse

Setting up allows us to set the tone of our day. Taking the time to make our building look open and welcoming encourages our members to enjoy our club rooms and allow others to enquire within. 

When:10-11 am ish

Tasks

Change Rooms

  • Check toilet paper levels replace if necessary (new toilet paper can be found in the white cupboards in the women’s change rooms)
    • To change the empty rolls, simply push the holder to one end and remove it (please do not just put toilet paper on top)
  • Ensure they are clean from any rubbish or wet, smelly sailor gear.
    • Place lost items in the RED LID bin outside (or give them back to the owner if you know them).
  • Check soap dispenser levels and top up if required (found in the white cupboards in the women’s change rooms)

Club rooms

  • Open the blinds
  • turn on the lights
  • Turn on the TV
  • Set up the tables (in groups of 2 to 4 seats)

Decking

  • Remove any rubbish
  • Place Barriers out - (they should line up with the yard fencing and the end of the ramp near the cafe
  • set out tables and chairs 
  • Setup  umbrellas and stands (please ask for assistance) 

Task Description - Bar and Closing up the clubhouse

Serving food and drinks is a great way to keep people engaged at the club once they get back off the water. Once members have started drifting off, please assist to pack up the building

Packing up is an important part of ensuring we are ready for any mid-week functions and ensures the safety of the building. Make sure you ask your fellow sailors to give you a hand, especially with those umbrellas!

When: Bar - 4pm ish till approx 530pm

Tasks

- Collect Cash from the office

- Add 1 bag of frozen dim sims to the dim sim steamer (found in a cupboard near the sink) (make sure you add water to the bottom, turn it on and wait till dim sims are cooked

- Serve any other food and beverages as necessary 

- Restock fridges (emptying any open wine bottles) 

- Clean Kitchen and put away cash

  • Ensure all bins are empty (wash if required)
  • Put new bin liners in (found in the draws in the bar next to the dishwasher)
  • Ensure lids are on bins

 

Change Rooms

  • Sweep the floor and wash if required (brooms can be found in the white cupboards in the women’s change rooms)
  • Wipe down all tables

Decking

  • Remove any rubbish
  • Put barriers away (in the south storage room) 
  • Put tables and chairs away
  • Wipe down all tables
  • Put away umbrellas and stands

 Course boat/safety boat (Gradnel & LG)

All powerboat Crews must attend the on-water briefing held in the Powerboat shed at 12.30am on Saturday . 

Power boat crew are advised that Footwear is always to be worn. It is advised that all crew dress appropriately with sun smart clothing and plenty of wet weather gear. All Drivers are required to provide the office with a copy of their boat license 

Powerboat Crew will be provided with the following

  • 1 x soft drink
  • 1 x water
  • The captain of the boat will be required to collect their allocated bag from the canteen before leaving shore.

Task Description

All items required are stored on the boat, please check with the captain about what equipment may be required.

 

Ensure the Safety check list has been completed prior to launching the boat.

 

You will have a built-in radio on board in order to communicate with the RO and other race committee vessels.

 

Course Laying

All Crew on boat will be required to assist with laying the course. This will require heavy lifting and maneuvering around the boat during varied sea conditions. Wait for direction from the caption before attempting to retrieve or launch and markers.  

 

Rescues

You may also be needed to conduct rescue activities if these are required.

 

  • All rescues must be reported to the tower.
  • During a rescue the Captain of the boat is in charge and has final say on how to process.
  • Radio communication should be kept to a minimum until the rescue has been completed.
  • Although there is an allocated swimmer on board. All crew should remain on the vessel unless otherwise indicated to provide further assistance from the captain.
  • Any assistance provided to a sailing craft must be notified to the tower at RO.

End of Day procedures

 

  • Equipment must be placed back in the correct location ready for next days racing

 

  • Empty Fuel containers must be removed and placed outside the fuel container to be refilled

 

  • Full fuel containers should be placed inside the yellow fuel storage cabinet

 

  • Boats and trailers are to be washed down with fresh water

 

  • Engines mush be flushed.

 

  • At the end of the day, please fill out the boat checklist provided to you, and indicate any maintenance issues so that these can be promptly fixed.

 

  • Report back to the Captain of the day before leaving.

 

Mako (Start/Finish Boat)

Task Description

There are a number of jobs to be done on the Start/Finish Boat.

They are generally:

  • Driver: will have been inducted by FYC committee, and will position the race committee vessel under direction from the RO.
  • Scribe/Recorder: will record start times, finish times, any boats who are On Course Side at the start, or who radio in to retire from the race.
  • Timer: will be responsible for starting the timer for the countdown to the race, and will call out the time at regular intervals before the start. The RO will indicate how they would like you to do this.
  • Flags: will be responsible for raising and lowering flags at the appropriate intervals. The flag sequence will be explained to you before you start.
  • Sound Signals: will be responsible for sounding the horn when signals are made. Direction will be given by the RO
  • Radio operator (this may be the RO): the radio operator should have some experience in this, and preferably hold a Marine Radio Operator license.

If you have any questions, your best point of call is the RO. If they cannot answer your question, they will know who to ask.
